Dr. Rakesh demonstrated Shatkarma which is the 6 steps of yogic purification. In the
afternoon, we were honored to be invited by Dr. Rakesh to his newly renovated ashram
and practicing yoga together.
Continuation of Dr. Rakesh workshop. At 7am, we had early morning Sun Salutaion
practice with Dr. Rakesh. Dr. Rakesh's son also protege then demonstrated advanced
asana to us with Dr. explaning the benefits of each posture. The highlight of the
day is the demonstration of Shtakarma (also known as Shatkriya) by Dr.. Shatkarma
meaning the 6 steps of yogic purification of the body originates in the book "Hatha
Yoga Pradipika" by Yogi Swatmarama. The six steps are: Nauli (Instestinal
cleansing), Basti (water, medicated oil or herbal enemas), Neti (nasal passage
cleansing), Dhauti (cleansing of disgestive tract), Kapalabjati (pranayama for skull
polishing) and Trataka (fixed gazing for ajna charkra purification)
Sun salutation demo with mantra chanting by Dr. Rakesh.
In the afternoon, we have the honour to be invited by Dr. Rakesh to visit his newly
renovated ashram. It is situated by the river coast surrounded by narrow streets, so
we can only go there by tot tot car and not by coach. His ashram is named " Self
Realization Yoga House". A picture is hung of him and his son, back when his son was
still a kid. We are very touched when we know that Dr has prepared 2 garlands, one
as a token of respect to his teacher, the other as welcome to Master Dickson as we
are his ashram's first guests. We then have a happy chanting and pranayama class
with Dr at his ashram and the day ends with certificate presentation and photo
taking with his family. Compared to the studios we are used to, Dr's ashram is
indeed raw and simplistic, but this just makes us feel all the more the warmth of
his hospitality and closer to austere yoga training in its original form.
