We went to visit one of the eight scared sites of Buddhism called Sarnath. Before we
leave, Dr. Rakesh honored us with a special demonstration of the Khechari Mudra
(Backward rolling of the tongue). We hereby give our thanks to the 3 great Masters
for their teaching (Dr. Vivek, Swamji Vidyanand andDr. Rakesh) and the support from
students who participated in the trip.
5 am in the morning, River Ganga is gold in color, it is very beautiful indeed. We
are there to watch sunrise, but because of the heavy mist, the sun cannot be seen.
With daylight, swarms of sea gulls fly to our boat and we take photos non-stop. It's
very cold but this trip to the river is worth it. We consider it cold but these
seagulls fly from Siberia to Varanasi for warmer weather.
We also witness many locals practising morning yoga at the coast. At the other end,
there is a cremation ceremony.
Dr. Rakesh accompanies us to Sarnath. This is one of the eight sacred sites of
Buddhism, as this is the location where Buddha has given his first sermon. 200
hundred years after the death of Buddha, King Ashoka erected the tower, the
monastery and the monolith at this site to commemorate Buddha. There are lion
sculptures on four sides of the monolith, and the current Indian currency has this
lion symbol on it too.
We have completed our itinerary, but the best is yet to come. Before we leave, Dr.
Rakesh honors us with a special demonstration of the Khechari Mudra (Backward
rolling of the tongue). Dr. Rakesh's mastery of the technique has reached a level
that his tongue can touch the uvula, entering the nasopharynx, which makes the demo
look quite scary to laymen. Dr told us that this is a very private practice and he
only does the demo on exceptional basis for teaching purpose. As such, he wishes us
not to publicize the video but only share it amongst yogis. We request viewers to
respect this wish of Dr. Rakesh. The benefits of this mudra is to stimulate the
nasal cavity, to increase secretion of saliva and to control hunger. Also, the more
backwards you can roll your tongure, the more you can receive the nectar from the
Sahasrara chakra (amrita) for nourishing your body.
NAMASTE! This trip is fruitful, fun and fascinating. We hereby give our thanks to
Amusing travel for their coordination, the 3 great Masters for their teaching (Dr.
Vivek, SwamjiVidyanand and Dr. Rakesh) and all the participating students for their
support. NAMASTE.
